Coffeehouse aims to give back to city
DEMOCRAT STAFF REPORT
Coffee lovers can get caffeinated and help local charities when they buy a cup at The Coffee Pub in Manor@Midtown.
Tallahassee's newest coffeehouse, which opened Monday, is funded by Killearn United Methodist Church, said co-manager Michael Lopez. All profits from the business will be divided among the new Watermark Methodist Church; the Pregnancy, Health and Information Center; Big Bend Cares; and The Shelter.
"This is a nonreligious establishment; this is a place for everybody," Lopez said. "We just want to give to the community the way Christians should."
The Coffee Pub serves only fair-trade and organic drip coffee and features real Cuban espresso, Lopez said, along with locally made muffins, cakes and Cuban pastries. Lopez and co-manager R.J. Voorhees hope to add Bagelhead bagels soon.
"We have everything you can get at Starbucks, with more," Lopez said.
The Coffee Pub, at Thomasville Road and Fifth Avenue, is open from 6:30 a.m. until midnight Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 425-5701.
